Specialty Care by People Who Care

Rosa Elena Cuenca, M.D.,FACS

General Information:

Dr. Cuenca is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is currently the Vice President of the North Texas Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and is the only Fellowship trained Surgical Oncologist in NE Texas.

She dedicates her practice to the care of Breast Cancer as well as benign diseases of the breast, performing both Stereotactic and Ultrasound and MRI guided breast biopsies.

Dr. Cuenca also specializes in Melanoma and other malignant skin and soft tissue and lymphatic cancers, Parotid, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery, as well as performing Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy for both Breast Cancer and Melanoma since 1994.

Dr. Cuenca is a strong advocate for women's health. She performs a Pain Free Sentinel Node Biopsy for breast cancer, injecting radioactive dye while asleep, and not while awake as most General Surgeons do, allowing the patient a more comfortable and stress free surgery.

A strong advocate for Breast Conservation surgery, she specializes in Onco-plastic Reconstructive Breast Surgery, to obtain the best cosmetic outcome.

Dr. Cuenca strives to provide education and awareness to our patients and their families in a respectful, caring atmosphere, and to ensure access to high quality treatment regimens in compliance with current knowledge and standards of care in a comfortable, convenient, community atmosphere. She is also a Clinical Professor of Surgery at LSU Shreveport.

Immediate or delayed reconstructive surgery is available with her close associate, David A. Jansen, MD, FACS, who operates with Dr. Cuenca here in Mt. Pleasant.

Dr. Jansen also provides Cosmetic Surgery and Facial and Occuloplastic Surgery through this office. Dr. Jansen is Chief of Plastic Surgery, Tulane University in New Orleans, LA, and has a private practice in New Orleans, as well.

As a Surgical Oncologist, Dr. Cuenca is very interested in Cancer Risk Assessment and Genetic Testing, and provides this through her consultation.
